When AI first came out, I felt excited.

I like shiny new tech, and this was as shiny as you could get.

But soon, my excitement shifted to disappointment.

I tried chatting with the AI tools and got terrible results.

I wanted them to help me write, but they never wrote like me.

I wanted them to help me brainstorm, but the ideas were generic and unhelpful.

I wanted them to help me do online research, but they didn't have access to the web.

And then, I learned to my dismay that I was chatting with them all wrong.

Apparently, my results were terrible because my prompts were no good.

If I wanted better responses from the AI, I would need to tweak my prompts so the AI understood. I would need to learn "prompt engineering."

But I didn't want to become an AI engineer.

I just wanted to use it to get things done faster.

Time passed, and I continued to get mediocre results.

And then, about a month ago, I made one small change that completely altered my relationship with AI chats.

I stopped writing prompts myself.

Instead, I have whichever AI tool I'm using write its own prompt.

After all, the AI knows best what information it needs to generate a complete answer. Its prompt will be far more detailed than anything I could come up with.

So now, I just tell the AI what task I'd like it to perform and ask it to write a prompt for me.

I get the desired results, and I don't have to become a prompt engineer (phew!).

Win-win.

Give it a try yourself.

The next time you want AI to answer a question or help you out, tell it what you want, and then have it author its own prompt.

You'll get much better results.

And, if you have any questions, I'm happy to help.
