A long time ago (in this galaxy, not one far, far away) I had a successful online course.

I taught people how to take their digital SLR cameras out of auto mode and leverage more of the settings to take better pictures.

The course wasn't a series of video lessons or anything fancy like that.

It was a PDF guide.

A long one, mind you, but just a PDF guide.

I sold the guide to people who visited my website and blog.

If someone purchased the guide, I'd answer their specific questions about their camera and the photos they wanted to take.

At first, this was no problem.

I'd get five to ten questions per week.

As the site grew in popularity and attracted more attention from Google, that number ballooned.

Soon, my email inbox was brimming with questions every day.

I had a tough choice to make.

I could either answer individual questions or work on my website, which would allow me to reach and help even more people.

I decided to remove the Ask a Question form.

I resisted for a long time, but eventually realized it was the right choice. There were hundreds of people asking questions, and only one of me.

I couldn't help everyone how I wanted to with my limited time each day.

I often wished I could clone myself. If there were one of me to answer questions and one to work on growing the business, it would have been perfect.

But there wasn't.

If only I'd had AI back then...

I could have created an AI assistant trained on everything I knew about digital SLRs.

Then, I could have provided that assistant to those who signed up for my course.

The assistant could answer 95% of the questions, and I could have handled the 5% that were more complex.

I could have supported more students with my program without burning out.
