Today I have a quick explainer for you. We'll answer the question "What is an AI Agent?" But first, a bit of semantics. I prefer to call them "Assistants" instead of "Agents." Two reasons. First, because "Agent" sounds exactly like a name engineers would come up with. Second, every time I hear the word "Agent," all I can think of is James Bond. The point of an AI Assistant is not to run covert missions for you. It doesn't drive a fancy car. It does not like martinis shaken, not stirred. Its sole purpose is to make your life easier. Hence, "Assistant" instead of "Agent." Great. With that out of the way, we can now discuss what an Agent/Assistant is and how it differs from AI chat. You're likely familiar with AI chat. If you've ever started a conversation with ChatGPT, Claude, or Google Gemini, that's a chat. You can ask the AI questions or get it to help you with specific tasks. It's like having a back-and-forth conversation with another person. However, it cannot perform a multi-step process. You ask. It answers. This is where AI Assistants come in. They CAN perform multiple steps. For example, you could have it:
Pretty cool, right? Once you realize that an Assistant can do all of this, you'll start brainstorming all kinds of uses for them. So today your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to develop one idea for an AI Assistant that could help you scale your business. If you have an awesome idea, hit "reply." I'd love to hear about it! Your creator AI coach, Chris Roberts |
