I'm a huge Star Wars fan.

Have been ever since I saw the first film in the theater.

I grew up around the corner where Industrial Light and Magic created all the special effects.

Once I saw that first movie, I was hooked.

Whenever a new film was released, I'd queue up with hundreds of other fans to be the first to watch it.

And yes, I've also watched every series on Disney+.

But I digress.

For those not as steeped in the Star Wars universe as I am, here's a bit of background...

In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker is mentored by a tiny green elf named Yoda.

Luke is learning how to use the Force, and at one point, Yoda asks him to do something challenging.

Luke says, "I'll try."

To which Yoda replies, "Do, or do not. There is no try."

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, only in the context of technology platforms.

When you're trying to decide which platform you should use, it's alarmingly easy to get stuck in analysis paralysis mode.

You compare and contrast features.

You wonder which features are must-have and which ones you can live without.

You debate about the price.

Instead of spending the next week or two debating, give this a shot: just do.

I have learned more within the first month and a half of this year by doing, by taking action, than I learned all last year, pondering and trying different options.

Once you start doing, you pinpoint those areas where you have a knowledge gap.

Then you can figure out how to plug the gap.

Plus, if you do discover that you have picked the wrong platform, you adjust and pivot to something better.

But you'll never learn that if you don't get started.

So today, I urge you to think like Yoda: "Do, or do not. There is no try."

You got this,

Chris Roberts

P.S. If you'd like some help doing instead of trying, I'm running a workshop that can help.
